I’ll just do one more thing! That has always been my mantra……. I know it isn’t good for me and am making a conscious effort to take some short breaks during the day. Knowing I do feel much better leaving my desk for a short break, it really is silly not to do it…..

As technology and flexible working policies have improved over the years, more and more employers are allowing their employees to work from home. A study by Stanford University economics professor Nicholas Bloom et al on working from home even suggests that it can make employees more productive and happier.
Small business owners and entrepreneurs who have to balance work and home life can feel if they are always working at full speed, however, their ‘to get done’ list, rarely shrinks and is more likely to increase. However, is it beneficial to get help? Surely by the time I have explained what I need to someone, it is quicker to do it myself? Would that person really be able to do it ‘my way’?
The old adage says ‘tidy house, tidy mind’, but there is conflicting information out there as to whether this extends to ‘tidy desk, tidy mind’. Some people say creativity is boosted by a messy desk, other people prefer a more minimalist approach. In many modern offices, a clear desk policy is normal – but often this has more to do with the security of documents than it has to do with the employees’ ability to concentrate.
